South Dakota Art Museum is on Medary Ave. at Harvey Dunn St. The museum's collection comprises more than 7,000 objects. Among the items in the Native American art collection are baskets, moccasins, pottery and rugs. The Marghab collection consists of hand-embroidered linens produced on the island of Madeira in the mid-20th century. A kids’ interactive room allows young artists to color, solve puzzles and use their imaginations with a variety of hands-on exhibits.
Six galleries include works by nationally recognized artist and South Dakota native Harvey Dunn and children's book illustrator and author Paul Goble, who specialized in Native American themes. Changing exhibits including regional, national and international artists also are featured.
