Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society is 4 blks. e. of SR 25 at 105 Olivet Ave. Led by costumed guides, visitors embark on tours of the original Surveyors' House where Laura Ingalls Wilder and her family spent their first Dakota winter in “By the Shores of Silver Lake” as well as the Ingalls Home, built in 1887 by Laura's father, Charles. Also on the tour is the first school Laura and Carrie Ingalls attended, which has been renovated to look as it did in the 1880s. Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 3 hours minimum.
$12; $6 (ages 5-12).
Hours: Mon.-Sat. 9-5:30, Sun. 11-5:30, June-Aug.; Mon.-Sat. 9-4 in May and Sept.; Mon.-Fri. 9-4, rest of year. Last tour begins 30 minutes before closing. Closed Thanksgiving, day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve through New Year's Day.
