Old Fort Meade Cavalry Museum is e. on SR 34 at Building 55 Sheridan St. The museum contains memorabilia from the 1878 cavalry post built by the remaining troops of Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer's 7th Cavalry to keep peace between the Lakota and Cheyenne Indians and prospectors. Some of the fort's original buildings remain intact. Nearby, the Fort Meade Cavalry Cemetery contains the graves of cavalrymen, buffalo soldiers, settlers and Native Americans. A video presentation gives an overview of fort life. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
