Smith-Zimmermann Heritage Museum is at 221 N.E. 8th St. on the Dakota State University campus. The museum contains exhibits chronicling the history and ethnic backgrounds of the first eastern South Dakota settlers. Displays include period rooms, Civil War items, an 1878 covered wagon and artifacts used by pioneers and townspeople, a Chautauqua collection and an 1884 velocipede.
