Minuteman Missile National Historic Site is just n. of I-90 exit 131. The visitor center offers exhibits and short videos about the Cold War and how the Minuteman missiles preserved peace. Guided 30-minute tours include the formerly operational Delta-01 Launch Control Facility and underground Launch Control Center, which once controlled 10 Minuteman II missiles. In addition, visitors can tour Launch Facility Delta-09 (a missile silo) on their own; a self-guiding cell phone tour is available seasonally. Delta-09 is at I-90 exit 116, approximately 6 miles east from the town of Wall. During the winter it is open Monday through Friday, weather permitting. NOTE: All tour participants must be physically able to climb up two 15-foot ladders unassisted in the event of an elevator failure. Guided tours are available.
Free. Guided tour $6; $4 (ages 6-16). Children 4 and under are not permitted due to safety regulations. Reservations are required for guided tour.
Hours: Visitor center open daily 8-4:30, June-Sept.; Mon.-Fri. 8-4:30, rest of year. Ranger-guided tours lasting approximately 30 minutes are given daily 8:30-11 and 1-3:30, June-Sept.; Mon.-Fri. at 10 and 2, rest of year. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Phone ahead to confirm schedule. Allow 2 hours minimum.
