AAA Editor Notes

Museum of Geology is in the O'Harra Building at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, 501 E. St. Joseph St. Rocks, minerals and ores from around the world as well as fluorescent minerals and meteorites are on display. Fossil exhibits include giant reptiles and fish skeletons from the ancient Cretaceous seas of South Dakota along with skeletons of Oligocene saber-toothed cats, camels and horses. Other displays feature fossils of various grassland mammals, a giant mammoth skull, titanotheres, marine invertebrates and fossil plants. A triceratops, the state fossil, is on display. The Kids Zone offers interactive exhibits for children.

Hours: Mon.-Fri. 9-5, Sat. 9-6, Sun. noon-5, Memorial Day-Labor Day; Mon.-Fri. 9-4, Sat. 10-4, rest of year. Closed winter holidays.
