A wonderful beach break in...
Pros: The location is perfect if you’re looking for a beach break with two beautiful beaches with comfortable shaded loungers. Fabulous areas for snorkelling (we saw a turtle!), low-key watersports like kayaking and paddle-boarding as well the usual swimming and sunbathing. The staff were wonderful and couldn’t do enough to make our holiday a relaxing one. The beach waiter service was particularly good, and special mention to Janice in the Tree House restaurant. Food is delicious and there are four menus to pick from providing plenty of choice, including a vegetarian one, a beach grill one, an Indian fusion menu and the a la carte. The locations of the restaurants are all pretty special in their own ways. Be sure to do the Anse Mamin tour with Meno, who explains the history of the area and takes you in a guided walk of the plantation.
Cons: The road from Soufriere to the Resort is absolutely horrendous! Be prepared for a bumpy, armrest-gripping ride. I was disappointed in the excursion booking process. I tried to book onto two seperate boat trips as I longed to see more of the island’s coastline but as there was a four person limit before the tours went ahead (which is fair enough if costs need to be covered) I didn’t manage to get the sailing experience I was looking forward too. The guest experience lady did what she could but unfortunately I didn’t think it was handled in the best way when I kept getting told to check back in the morning/afternoon/evening when I would’ve rather been relaxing without having to keep visiting the desk (if you’d seen the stairs from the beach to the reception, you’d understand why). Would be good if the Resort looked into an affiliation with a water taxi or made one of the smaller boats available for tours if they don’t get the numbers they need. It’s a small thing but it was a negative for me in an otherwise lovely stay.

Overall a great place for...
Pros: The staff was excellent
Cons: Not many options for food at the restaurants for pickier people and was expensive. No T.V. in room. Way off the beaten path so renting a car to explore not really an option.

As good as it gets
Pros: The rooms were extraordinarily designed and location on the mountains near the sea in the rain forest for all practical purposes is truly exquisitely beautiful. The staff are happy to serve you and are determined to please. The food, especially at Aspara, is exceptionally well prepared and each dish uniquely seasoned. The beaches have black crystals from the nearby dormant volcano that make the sand a pretty dark shade. Snorkeling is easily done from the beach and so is scuba. The reef is no more than 10 yards out most places. There are many nature attractions nearby.
Cons: The private road to the hotel is in serious disrepair, which I speculated may have been intentional to deter people from town from coming because all beaches in St Lucia are public. It would be very hard to get around if you had any mobility issues because the grounds are steep.
