Zoo Knoxville is 2.5 mi. e. off I-40 exit 392 (Knoxville Zoo Dr./Rutledge Pike), following signs to 3500 Knoxville Zoo Dr. The 53-acre zoo houses more than 800 animals, many in natural habitats. Special exhibits include Valley of the Kings, Gorilla Valley, The Williams Family Giraffe Encounter, The Boyd Family Red Panda Village, Grasslands Africa, Black Bear Falls, Chimp Ridge and Penguin Rock. Tiger Forest offers visitors an up-close look at rare Malayan tigers. Activities for children include the Clayton Family Kids Cove, Nature Play, Wee Play Adventure and interactive animal exhibits.

The zoo also features camel rides, a carousel, an animal show, an elephant preserve and a reptile exhibit. Rental strollers are available. Keeper chats are offered in summer.

$19.95; $16.95 (ages 4-12 and 65+). Tickets bought after 3 p.m. provide free admission the following operating day.
Daily 9-5, late May-early Aug.; Mon.-Fri. 9:30-4:30, Sat.-Sun. 9:30-6, Jan. 1 to late May; Mon.-Fri. 9-4, Sat.-Sun. 9-5, early Aug.-early Oct.; daily 10-4, rest of year. Last admission 1 hour before closing. Closed Christmas Eve and Christmas. Allow 2 hours minimum.
