Memphis Brooks Museum of Art is in Overton Park just w. of East Pkwy. at 1934 Poplar Ave. Founded in 1916, the museum is said to be one of the largest in the South. A permanent collection of more than 8,000 works as well as traveling exhibitions spans antiquity to the present. The core of the collection includes Italian Renaissance, Northern Renaissance and Baroque paintings; 18th- and 19th-century English and American portraits; works by French Impressionists; American paintings and sculptures; decorative arts; and an African art survey. An audio tour is available. Food is available. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
$7; $6 (ages 65+ and students with ID); $3 (ages 7-17). Audio tour free.
Hours: Wed.-Fri. 10-4 (also Wed. 4-8), Sat. 10-5, Sun. 11-5. Last admission 30 minutes before closing. Closed Jan. 1, July 4, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
