Forbidden Caverns is 14 mi. n.e. on US 411, following signs to 455 Blowing Cave Rd. The caves were inhabited several thousand years before the first European explored them. From the 1930s to 1943 they were used as a hideaway for making moonshine. The caverns contain a large wall of onyx, natural chimneys, ancient waterfalls and a stream. An audio presentation offers history about the caverns.
Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted.
