Neill-Cochran House Museum is at 2310 San Gabriel St. The furniture in this restored 1855 Greek Revival house reflects 19th- and early 20th-century eclectic tastes. Designed by architect/master builder Abner Cook, who also designed the Texas Governor's mansion, the building has been a private residence, a hospital for Union soldiers during Reconstruction, and the first home of the Texas Institute for the Blind. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
Guided tour $10; $8 (ages 65+); $5 (students with ID); free (ages 0-11). Self-guiding tour $5; $4 (ages 65+ and students with ID); free (ages 0-11).
Hours: Tues.-Fri. 1-4. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve-Jan. 2.
