O. Henry Museum, 3 blks. w. of I-35 at 409 E. 5th St., chronicles the life of William Sydney Porter during the years he lived in Austin. The short-story writer, better known as O. Henry, authored such classics as “The Gift of the Magi,” “The Ransom of Red Chief” and “The Cop and the Anthem.” On display in this Queen Anne-style cottage, where he lived in the 1890s with his wife and daughter, are many of the author's personal effects, including unpublished manuscripts and a copy of “The Rolling Stone,” his Austin-published newspaper.
