Zilker Metropolitan Park is 1.5 mi. s.w. at 2100 Barton Springs Rd. bordering Lady Bird Lake. The centerpiece of the 358-acre park is Barton Springs Pool, a spring-fed 1,000-foot-long swimming pool with a constant temperature of 68 F. Opportunities for bicycling, canoeing, hiking and picnicking are available. A museum, sculpture garden and outdoor theater also are on the grounds. A 20-minute train ride aboard the Zilker Zephyr is offered.

Note: Coolers, food, glass, alcohol, footballs, soccer balls and Frisbees are not permitted. Nonalcoholic beverages in plastic containers are permitted.

Recreational activities are permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Food is available. Time: Allow 4 hours minimum.

Park admission $5 (per private vehicle), mid-Mar. through Labor Day weekend; $5 (Sat.-Sun. and holidays), free (Mon.-Fri.), rest of year. Barton Springs admission Fri.-Wed. 8 a.m.-9 p.m. and Thurs. 5 a.m.-9 a.m. and 7 p.m.-10 p.m. $8; $4 (ages 12-17); $4 (ages 1-11 and 62-79). Barton Springs admission daily 5-8 a.m. and 9-10 p.m., free to all. Train $3; $2 (ages 1-11 and 65+).
Park open daily 5 a.m.-10 p.m. Barton Springs open Fri.-Wed. 5 a.m.-10 p.m., Thurs. 5 a.m.-9 a.m. and 7 p.m.-10 p.m. (weather permitting). Train operates daily 10-6.
