Matagorda County Museum is at jct. SRs 35 and 60 (Ave. F) at 2100 Ave. F. Built in 1917, the site operated as a post office for more than 70 years. An exhibit highlights explorer René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle's ship, La Belle, which sank near Matagorda Bay. A replica of the ship and artifacts are featured. A children's museum has hands-on activities.

An additional exhibit explains the history of the Karankawa Indians.
