Fort Davis National Historic Site is n. of town near Limpia Creek off SRs 17 and 118. Occupying 523 acres, this frontier military post was established to protect travelers, freighters and mail riders on the San Antonio-El Paso Road. In summer, interpreters in period dress staff the officers' quarters, barracks, kitchen and servants' quarters. Interpretive exhibits are displayed at the fort museum, which also features photographs, weapons, Native American artifacts and paintings.
