Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens is 4.5 mi. w. via Memorial Dr., then .5 mi. s. to 6003 Memorial Dr. The American decorative arts collection of The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston is housed in the former home of philanthropist Miss Ima Hogg. Displayed in more than 20 room settings, the collection traces the evolution in American style from the Colonial period to the mid-19th century. More than 5,000 works include ceramics, furniture, glass, paintings, paper, silver and textiles. The house is surrounded by 14 acres of woodlands and formal gardens with imported and native plants. The Lora Jean Kilroy Visitor and Education Center features exhibits, videos and a library. Guided tours are available.
Guided 90-minute house tour (includes gardens) $15; $13.50 (ages 65+ and students with ID); $7.50 (ages 10-18). One-hour house tour or self-guiding audio tour (includes gardens) $12.50; $11 (ages 65+ and students with ID); $6.25 (ages 10-18). Gardens $5; free (ages 0-9). Ages 0-9 are not permitted on guided tours. Ages 10-16 must be with an adult. Reservations are recommended for guided tours.
Hours: Guided 1-hour or 90-minute house tours depart every 15 minutes Tues.-Thurs. 10-11:45 and 1-2:45, Fri.-Sat. 10-11:45, Sept.-July. Schedule varies rest of year; phone ahead.
