AAA Inspector Notes
The chef at this neighborhood bistro makes use of many local ingredients and produce and brings comfort food to the next level without overcomplicating things. The food quality is simply outstanding. Entrées such as the captain's fried chicken and the fish tacos have garnered praise, but the best item tasted was the market fresh fish of the day, in this case a pan-seared grouper simply presented with pineapple-tomato compote, white asparagus and an arugula salad. Desserts include high-quality renditions of such classics as lemon icebox pie. The bustling dining room in a small bungalow has simple, relaxed décor with a few antique accents that recall the Houston Heights neighborhood it is a part of. Wine drinkers will find an interesting list and a knowledgeable staff that is eager to offer tastings and suggestions.
