Silent Wings Museum is at 6202 N. I-27 in the old Lubbock Airport terminal. Exhibits chronicle the history of the United States military glider program during World War II. A collection of more than 10,000 artifacts includes aircraft, vehicles, weapons and personal effects of soldiers and civilians. A fully restored glider sits inside the 30,000-square-foot gallery; a fully restored C-47 Skytrain is installed in front of the museum. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
$8; $6 (ages 60+); $5 (ages 7-17 and students with ID); free (ages 0-6 and active military in uniform).
Hours: Tues.-Sat. 10-5, Sun. 1-5. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
