Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary is off US 75 exit 38A, then e. following signs to 1 Nature Pl. The 289-acre natural science and education center features 7 miles of hiking trails, a boardwalk over the wetlands, prairies, a 2-acre native plant garden, and a butterfly house and garden. On exhibit are native snakes, minerals, fossils, seashells and marine life. Of interest is a children's fossil dig and Texas ecosystems display.
Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
