Monahans Sandhills State Park is 5 mi. e. off I-20 to Park Rd. 41. The park includes 3,840 acres of sand dunes, part of a vast area that stretches into New Mexico. Many dunes are active, growing and changing shape, unlike most of the surrounding area, which has been stabilized by shin oak and other vegetation. Visitor center exhibits depict the history of the dunes as well as that of the area's former inhabitantsPet friendly (call for restrictions/fees.). Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted. Food is available.
