Muleshoe National Wildlife Refuge is 20 mi. s. on SR 214 to CR 1248. The refuge encompasses 6,449 acres of rolling grasslands surrounding three lakes. From October to March the area has one of the country's largest concentrations of sandhill cranes. A favorite roosting area is Paul's Lake.
