Port Isabel Lighthouse is at Maxan and Tarnava sts. in the Museums of Port Isabel complex. Visitors may climb to the top of the lighthouse, which guided ships through the barrier islands and Brazos Santiago 1852-1905. It is the only lighthouse along the coast of Texas open to the public. The lighthouse keeper's cottage, which houses the chamber of commerce, includes historic lighthouse-related items. Note: Rubber-soled shoes are recommended. Children under 38 inches tall and under 4 years old are not permitted to climb the lighthouse. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
$4; $3 (ages 55+); $2 (ages 5-17 and students with ID). Combination ticket with Port Isabel Historical Museum and Treasures of the Gulf Museum $9; $7 (ages 55+); $4 (ages 5-17 and students with ID).
Hours: Sun.-Thurs. 9-6, Fri. 9-5, Sat. 9-7, June 1-Labor Day; daily 9-5, rest of year. Keeper’s cottage Mon.-Fri. 9-5, Sat. 10-4. Last admission 30 minutes before closing.
