Big Bend Ranch State Park is at 1900 Sauceda RR. The park protects 301,000 acres of Chihuahuan Desert wilderness. A 50-mile scenic drive follows the Rio Grande from the west entrance at Fort Leaton State Historic Site to the Barton Warnock Visitor Center in Lajitas (1 mi. e. on FM 170). A 27-mile drive off FM 170 to Sauceda Headquarters and an additional 14 mile drive on a gravel road to Solitario leads to a an 8.5-mile-wide caldera. Primitive camping is available. Note: Certain campsites along the river are closed indefinitely due to flood damage; phone for more information. Recreational activities are permitted. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
Admission Sept.-Apr. $5; free (ages 0-12). Admission rest of year $3; free (ages 0-12). Primitive camping $5-$8 per night.
Hours: Park open daily. Saucedo headquarters open daily 8-6; closed Christmas.
