Fort Leaton State Historic Site is 3 mi. e. on FM 170. Former bounty hunter Benjamin Leaton established the border trading post in 1848. Twenty-five of the 47 rooms around the patio of the adobe fortress have been restored. Exhibits depict the area's Native American, Spanish, Mexican and American pioneer cultures. Picnicking is permitted.
Admission Nov.-Apr. $5; free (ages 0-12). Admission rest of year $3; free (ages 0-12).
Hours: Daily 8-4:30. Closed Christmas. Allow 30 minutes minimum.
