Museum of the Coastal Bend is at 2200 E. Red River, on the Victoria College campus campus at N. Ben Jordan and E. Red River sts. Exhibits showcase the heritage of the mid-coastal region of Texas. Artifacts and cannons from Fort St. Louis are highlights. Also displayed are relics recovered from La Belle, the French explorer La Salle's ship, which sank in nearby Matagorda Bay in 1686. An interpretative area allows visitors to experience the cramped conditions passengers experienced while crossing the ocean. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
Hours: Tues.-Sat. 10-4. Closed major holidays.
