AAA Editor Notes
Nassau Botanical Gardens is bounded by W. Bay St., N. Dunmore and Infant View rds., Marcus Bethel Dr. and Fort Charlotte. Hundreds of native and exotic plant species, including orchids, are showcased on 20 acres (8 hectares). The British military occupied this site in the 1800s, and according to folklore, slaves who died in the construction of Fort Charlotte were buried in the gardens. Originally designed to introduce new species to the Bahamas from around the world, the gardens have been ravaged by hurricanes many times over the years; restoration is ongoing.
