AAA Editor Notes

High Uintas Wilderness extends from Mirror Lake eastward beyond Kings Peak to North Pole Pass. It encompasses approximately 456,705 mountainous acres of forests and lakes and offers 545 miles of trails. Ridges divide the region into large scenic basins interspersed with high glacial moraines and drifts. The floors of these basins are a spectacular contrast to the abrupt ridges rising several thousand feet. Many of the hundreds of lakes are stocked with trout.
Backpacking is the most popular way to visit the High Uintas; no motor vehicles are allowed. Visitors should register at a trailhead before entering the area.

Hours: The wilderness is accessible late June to mid-Sept.
