Cove Fort Historic Site, 1 mi. n. off I-70 exit 1, or 2 mi. s off I-15 exit 135, was built in 1867 by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The volcanic rock and limestone fort served as a way station for 19th-century Mormon settlers and travelers and also as a pickup and delivery site for pony-delivered mail. Period furnishings and artifacts are displayed throughout the restored 12-room fort.
