Little Sahara Recreation Area, 27020 Sand Mountain Rd., is a 60,000-acre tract of shifting dunes, juniper-dotted hills and sagebrush flats inhabited by a wide range of animals. Off-road vehicles traverse 124 square miles of dune fields, which were created when strong winds picked up sand from the Sevier Desert and deposited them here.
Sand Mountain, a challenging, nearly 700-foot wall of sand, is Little Sahara's focal point. Attracting riders of all abilities, the White Sand Dunes offer numerous bowls. The Black Mountain includes a network of dirt trails. There also are fenced sand play areas at the White Sands Campground and the Jericho Picnic Area. The Rockwell Outstanding Natural Area is a 9,000-acre unit reserved for non-vehicle use.
