Homestead Crater is at 700 N. Homestead Dr. at Homestead Resort. The crater, which began forming 10,000 years ago, is filled with warm mineral waters now enjoyed by swimmers, snorkelers and scuba divers. Sunlight enters through a large hole at the top of the hollowed out 55-foot-tall, beehive-shaped limestone rock. After checking in at the Activity Center, visitors enter through a short, lighted tunnel that was dug through the rock wall at ground level. Decks, a soaking area and dressing rooms are available. Recreational activities are permitted.
Forty-minute access to the crater and mineral springs for swimming and soaking $16 (Fri.-Sun.); $11 (Mon.-Thurs.). Snorkeling equipment $5. Reservations are required.
Hours: Mon.-Thurs. noon-8, Fri.-Sat. 10-8, Sun. 10-6. Phone for scuba diving schedule and rates.
