AAA Editor Notes

Hole 'n the Rock is 15 mi. s. via US 191. This 14-room home excavated from solid sandstone by Albert and Gladys Christensen beginning in the early 1940s and continuing for 20 years looks much as it did when the couple lived there; a rock and cactus garden are outside. Mr. Christensen also completed several paintings, including “Sermon on the Mount.” A likeness of Franklin D. Roosevelt is carved on the outside face of the home. An exotic zoo has a camel, a zebra, sheep, goats, pigs, wallabies, emus, alpacas, and miniature donkeys and horses. Picnicking is permitted.
Hole 'n the Rock $6.50; $3.50 (ages 5-10). Zoo $4.25; free (ages 0-1).
Hours: Tours begin daily every 15-20 minutes 9-5. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas.
