Sand Flats Recreation Area is .5 mi. e. on Mill Creek Dr., then 2.5 mi. n.e. on Sand Flats Rd. to the entrance booth. At the Colorado Plateau's core lies this 9,000-acre recreation area, home to the Slickrock and Porcupine Rim bicycle trails; nearly 40 miles of jeep trails; and varied fauna and flora, including desert cottontail rabbits, bats, mule deer, pinyon pine, juniper and cliff rose shrubs.
The site's spectacular geological features also lure visitors; exposures of Jurassic-aged sedimentary rock layers are encountered by visitors traversing Sand Flats' multitude of foot and vehicle paths.
Pets on leash are allowed. Camping is permitted. Picnicking is permitted.
