AAA Editor Notes
Panguitch-Escalante-Boulder Scenic Drive begins off US 89 at SR 12 and traverses Bryce Canyon for 124 miles. SR 12 borders a large, unsurveyed wilderness area. The Kaiparowits Plateau's vividly colored canyons and rock formations contrast with the heavy forest of the Aquarius Plateau; Native American ruins and pictographs can be seen. Near Escalante are extensive deposits of colorful petrified wood. Hells Backbone, between Escalante and Boulder, offers spectacular views.
