Joseph Smith Memorial Building is at 52 N. Main St. Named for the first president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the renovated building, a hotel from 1911 to 1987, contains a genealogy center and such decorative features as marble columns, art glass and an elegant staircase. Gardens surround the building. A 70-minute film about Smith's life is shown in a 500-seat theater.
Guided building tours are given Mon.-Fri. 9-9, Sat, 9-5. Film shown every 2 hours. Gardens open Mon.-Thurs. 11-3:30 and 5-9, Fri.-Sat. 11-3:30 and 5-10. Closed Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Allow 1 hour, 30 minutes minimum.
