Red Butte Garden and Arboretum, 300 Wakara Way on the University of Utah campus, has hiking trails and paved garden paths, wildlife, waterfalls, a floral walk, a children's garden, and terraced herb, medicinal and fragrance gardens. More than 400,000 bulbs bloom in the spring, and the rose garden features more than 175 varieties. Morning bird-watching tours, evening garden tours and wildflower hikes are given seasonally, and outdoor concerts also take place. Picnicking is permitted. Time: Allow 1 hour minimum.
Admission Mar.-Nov. $12; $10 (ages 65+, military, and University of Utah faculty and staff with ID); $7 (ages 3-17); free (University of Utah students with ID). Half-price admission, rest of year.
Hours: Daily 9-9, May-Aug.; 9-7:30, in Apr. and Sept.; 9-5, rest of year. Closes at 5 when outdoor concerts take place; phone for schedule. Closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve through Jan. 1.
