Salt Lake Tabernacle on Temple Square is in Temple Square at 50 W. North Temple St. Completed in 1867, the tabernacle seats 6,500 under one of the world's largest domed roofs without center supports. The building has remarkable acoustics, and its 11,623-pipe organ is said to be one of the finest in existence. The tabernacle has been the home of the renowned Mormon Tabernacle Choir since the group's inception in the mid-19th century. The choir's 360 volunteer singers, all members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, practice and perform weekly.
Hours: Tours are given daily on the hour 9-8; hours vary for tours on Jan. 1, Thanksgiving and Christmas. The choir's public rehearsals are Thurs. 7:30-9:30 p.m. The choir's weekly live broadcast starts Sun. at 9:30 a.m.; guests for the broadcast must be seated by 9:15 a.m. Organ recitals are held Mon.-Sat. at noon, Sun. at 2.
