Frontier Culture Museum

Frontier Culture Museum is off I-81 exit 222, then .3 mi. w. on US 250. The outdoor living-history facility features reconstructed working farms of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. Costumed interpreters depict life in West Africa, Germany, Northern Ireland, England and the Americas. Living-history demonstrations show a rich European influence on Appalachian cultural traditions.

Typical farms from Germany, England, Ireland and the Shenandoah Valley have been moved and re-assembled at the museum. Many of Virginia’s early colonists were representative of the farmers who occupied these historic homes. A short film about the development of the museum project is available. Changing exhibits focus on European and American culture. The self-guiding tour covers 1.5 miles.
