Watermen’s Museum is e. on SR 238 to 309 Water St. Both indoor galleries and outdoor exhibits portray the history of Virginia’s civilian and military watermen, from pre-Colonial to modern times, who worked on or along the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Exhibits include boats, ship models, paintings, dioramas, photographs and tools. A full-size replica Colonial windmill is on the property. On the beach, a 40-foot, gondola-style replica of a 1775 gunboat. Re-enactors can be seen firing cannons and performing seaside duties on a regular basis.

A variety of special events and activities, including Friday concerts, dances and lectures, are offered; phone ahead for more information.
