Hacienda El Lencero

Hacienda El Lencero is about 9 km (5.5 mi.) e. of Jalapa off the Xalapa-Veracruz toll road (Mex. 140), then follow signs 1.5 km (1 mi.) to the hacienda. A guided tour of this country estate, a former inn for stagecoaches traveling between Veracruz and Mexico City and later a sugarcane plantation, offers insight into 19th-century hacienda life, a relatively luxurious existence reserved for wealthy plantation owners. The various rooms are furnished with canopied beds, large armoires, hand-carved wood and stone angels, Mexican rugs and ornate light fixtures.
