Plaza Téllez

Plaza Téllez is terraced into a hillside in the center of town, between calles Juan Enríquez and José Nuñez. White-tiled and palm-shaded, it has benches inlaid with tile mosaics. On the plaza's south side is the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption (Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción). Carved into the church's north wall is the Tribute to the Totonac Culture (Homenaje a la Cultura Totonaca), a 165-foot-long stone mural. It depicts Totonac folkloric figures and is dominated by a rendering of the plumed serpent Quetzalcóatl that runs its entire length.
