Mount Equinox, on SR 7A, 5 mi. s. of jct. SRs 11 and 30, is owned by a Carthusian monastery. At 3,848 feet, the mountain is the highest peak in the Taconic Range. The view from the summit encompasses parts of New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Québec. The summit is reached by a 5.2-mile paved road with guardrails, steep grades and sharp curves. The Saint Bruno Scenic Viewing Center features exhibits detailing the history of the monastery and the mountain; a two-level deck affords grand views. A hiking trail is available.
Note: Buses; RVs; trailers; truck campers; vans that can accommodate more than eight passengers; and vehicles carrying bikes, canoes or kayaks are not permitted on the toll road.
