Mount Independence State Historic Site is 6 mi. w. of jct. SR 22A and SR 73 at 497 Mount Independence Rd. Location of the Revolutionary War's largest military fortifications, the remains include the foundation of a stockade, blockhouses, gun batteries and a hospital.
A visitor center/museum presents a 12-minute orientation video and tells the story of military life on Mount Independence, featuring many of the artifacts recovered during archeological investigations. Trails—including an accessible trail with interpretive signs—with views of Lake Champlain traverse 300 acres of woodland and pasture.
