Joseph Smith Birthplace Memorial is 4 mi. n. on SR 14, 1.8 mi. n.e. on Dairy Hill Rd., then .3 mi. e. to 357 LDS Ln. A solid, 50-foot granite monument, surrounded by landscaped grounds, hiking trails and a picnic area, marks the site of the Mormon prophet's birth. In the visitor center are pictures, paintings and a theater. Christmas decorations feature more than 150,000 lights and can be seen the night after Thanksgiving through Jan. 1.
Guided tours are available. Picnicking is permitted.
