Old Constitution House is at 16 N. Main St. Vermont's constitution was adopted in this former tavern on July 8, 1777. The building is now a museum devoted to Vermont history. The permanent exhibition A Free and Independent State examines Vermont’s formative years. Displays pertain to the Republic of Vermont, slavery prohibition, voting rights for men and the implementation of a public school system.
Guided tours are available. Time: Allow 30 minutes minimum.
