AAA Inspector Notes
Golf and tennis facilities enhance this sprawling resort that has been family-owned for generations. A variety of guest rooms are offered, including oceanfront suites with luxurious appointments. The rooms located in the main guest house are not as upscale as the oceanfront guest units, but they are comfortable and offer ocean views. Perched on a hill, the lobby provides panoramic views of this 138-acre resort with two swimming pools and two distinct beach areas. Tuesday night management hosts a guests' reception at the sugar mill with rum, wine, hors d'oeuvres, steel pan music and the famous moko jumbies. Smoke free premises. 138 units, some two bedrooms. 1-2 stories (no elevator), interior/exterior corridors.

Pros: For anyone trying to decide between Renaissance Carambola and The Buccaneer -- we stayed at both during our stay and The Buccaneer is far better! - Food was quite amazing (coming from a food snob). Apparently two new chefs recently joined: Jason Thomas and Dave Kendrick. We ordered different appetizers/entrees/deserts each night (total ~15 dishes or so) -- each one was a hit; balanced flavors, creative twists incorporating local ingredients, simply delicious. Never felt the need to leave the resort for dinner, even though I usually try to find an authentic hole-in-the-wall wherever I travel. - The resort was lovely. Multiple beach options. All beach equipment (floats, kayaks, snorkeling gear, etc) are free to use. - Room was beautiful and large, with vaulted ceiling and huge bathroom (like huge as in you could fit another bed in there). - Back to food for a minute ... breakfast buffet was great, obviously. - We did not utilize the golf course, but the grounds are well maintained and very scenic.
Cons: No complaints!
