AAA Editor Notes
Gadsby's Tavern Museum, 134 N. Royal St., comprises the original Georgian tavern, built about 1785, and the 1792 City Hotel. The tavern—with its taproom, small dining room and assembly room—and the hotel ballroom were a center for Alexandria's social and political life. Prominent patrons have included George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and John Adams. Interpretive programs are offered year-round.

Guided tours are available.
