The George Washington Masonic National Memorial surmounts Shuter's Hill at the w. end of King St. The 333-foot-tall landmark was inspired by the ancient lighthouse at Alexandria, Egypt. The Replica Room contains original furnishings of Alexandria Lodge No. 22, the lodge in Alexandria over which Washington was the first Worshipful Master under Virginia charter.

A colossal bronze statue of our nation's first president greets visitors entering Memorial Hall, a second-floor space that also showcases two murals by distinguished American artist Allyn Cox. The Memorial Theater shelters 16 St. Genevieve gold-veined Missouri marble columns and a Möller pipe organ, along with 14 bronze bas-relief plaques, one for each of the Freemason U.S. presidents.

The structure's three-tier tower includes a research library and The George Washington Museum, which features such relics as a Washington family Bible. Guided tours introduce the symbols and allegory of the fraternal organization and include access to the structure's three-tier tower. Exhibits there include The Family of Freemasonry, which explains the diverse world of the Masonic fraternity. The ninth floor observation deck provides 360-degree views of the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area.
