AAA Editor Notes
Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Grove is s. of Memorial Bridge along George Washington Memorial Pkwy. in Lady Bird Johnson Park, a Potomac River island. A granite memorial to President Lyndon B. Johnson on the 17-acre island is surrounded by stones inscribed with quotations from his works. The park, originally named Columbia Island, was renamed to honor the first lady who was committed to beautifying Washington, D.C.
Mrs. Johnson selected the site for the memorial grove; it was a spot she and her husband had long admired. A walking trail allows visitors to explore the tree-covered area.
Picnicking is permitted.
