Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University is 7.8 mi. n.w. of I-81 exit 118 (US 460W bypass) to the visitor center at 925 Prices Fork Rd. Founded in 1872, Virginia Tech is one of the largest universities in the state, with some 30,000 students and more than 125 buildings as well as hundreds of research labs, a corporate research center and an airport. The 2,600-acre campus blends modern structures with beautiful old buildings built from native Hokie stone, a variety of limestone rich in calcium and magnesium.
Maps, parking passes and directions are available at the visitor center, which also offers interactive exhibits and a photo op with school mascot HokieBird.
