AAA Editor Notes
Chatham Manor is .5 mi. e. across the Rappahannock River off SR 212 at 120 Chatham Ln. The 18th-century Georgian mansion served as Union headquarters and a field hospital during the Civil War. From its front terrace, officers had a clear view of the city and points along the river where Northern engineers built pontoon bridges for the Battle of Fredericksburg.

Clara Barton was among those who provided care for wounded soldiers here. A 13-minute film and a museum relate the story of Chatham Manor and the role it played in the war. Gardens and outbuildings also are on the premises.
